Nature's plenty abounds: Few other wine regions worldwide offer such a phenomenal intersection of climate, sunshine and precipitation! It's thus little wonder to see the development of "Weinland Baden", an unparalleled cultural and wine landscape.

But only one winery in Baden carries this landscape in its very name: the Weingut Markgraf von Baden. We treat the legacy with reverence, and hold it and ourselves to the highest standards. One proof of this is our membership in the renowned Association of the German wineries with Prädikatsweine (Verband der deutschen Prädikatsweingüter, VDP), the Association of German Quality and Prädikat Wine Estates. Three stars in the renowned 2011 Gault Millau also pay testament the hard work at the winery in Baden: It belongs to the leading winegrowing estates in Baden... and has for centuries. After all, the noble house has been instrumental to the region's history of wine, such as through the introduction of the "Klingelberger" from the plots around the Weingut Schloss Staufenberg in Durbach.

We have one guiding principle: Stay true to quality!

According to the "2011 Guide to German Wines", this is a place where "enduring and sensitive work on the quality of the wines is being done." The Margraves of Baden view precisely this as their legacy and obligation. After all: "Fidelitas, meaning loyalty and reliability, are the motto of our family", the Margave of Baden himself notes. And Fidelitas is also the name of the premium wine from our estate in Durbach and in Schloss Salem on Lake Constance.

Whether it's a Lagewein from the Schlossberg in Durbach, a Gutswein or even a traditional Ortswein — each wine reflects the characteristics of the specific terroir from which it came. Our philosophy is simple: we let the wine lead the way. We pursue a conservative and gentle handling of both the grapes and the wine in order to best preserve the character of the steep, sun-drenched hills and the weathered granite soil. By doing this, we've produced centuries worth of fine wines at our Baden estate — high quality, authentic wines with an exceptional sense of place.
